At the Mattioli Arena in Leicester on Sunday, surprise finalist Mike De Decker defeated world No. 1 Luke Humphries 6-4 to win his first World Grand Prix title.

With a string of outstanding performances in the double-start competition, the 28-year-old Belgian advanced to his first televised final and won the £120,000 top prize after an exciting final.

After an incredible 2024 and a stunning 5-0 victory over Ryan Joyce in the semi-final, Humphries entered the final as the clear favourite to win the title again, but he was unable to match the outstanding Belgian’s calm performance.

De Decker, who had a spectacular run through the tournament and a spectacular maiden televised triumph, outplayed the world champion for most of the evening.

“I’m so proud,” said De Decker. “It feels amazing – I’m over the moon; I’ve been really happy with my performance all week, but this tops it off.”

“Luke has been a phenomenal champion for the last year and he’s such a nice person.”

“The way Luke has been playing since last year is just brilliant and being the person that beats him this weekend, in a final, picking up this trophy; I’m so happy!”
