The Williamstown tennis programme won two titles on Monday, easily advancing through the Class AA/A Region II team competition.
In the end, the Williamstown boys defeated Moorefield 4-0 at Lincoln High School to win their fourth consecutive regional championship. The Yellowjackets defeated Lincoln 4-0 in Summit on Saturday to go to the championship round.
The Yellowjackets, led by Gabi Holl’s 8-1 triumph against Francesca Reed in singles and three wins in the doubles category, defeated Notre Dame 4-0 to earn their third consecutive regional title for the girls’ team at Robert C. Byrd High School.
The victory was started by the doubles teams from Williamstown, which included Claire-Strobl and Akhia Miller at No. 1, Ashtyn McIntyre and Holl at No. 2, and Athenn Stewart and Lauren Deem at No. 3.
The Yellowjacket girls defeated Robert C. Byrd 4-0 to start the semifinals.
The state tournament, which will take place at the Kanawha City Community Centre in Charleston from May 9–11, is for the team competition finalists.
The singles and doubles entries’ individual brackets will take up the remainder of this week. Each bracket’s top four finishers move on to the state competition.
