Vaidya – a new short film that is soon to be officially released recently announced an exclusive first-preview screening for selected audiences to be organized on May 16th, 2021. The film, which wrapped up shooting in January of 2021 in Goa recently concluded the post-production of the film at Baas Films Studio in Mumbai and is all set for its first-ever screening.
The film was set to be premiered at Kashish Film Festival, which was then postponed from May to August due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
“We were not planning for a preview in the past. But the kind of response and anticipation we got when we released the poster, we felt we must organize a limited preview. We are still with Kashish for the premiere.” Said Sumit Pawar, director of the film.
This is Sumit’s second project as a director. Prior to this, he had directed another short film called ‘Khwaaish’.
The story is about how Kabir meets the mysterious Vaidya at a beach on a solo trip. The two fall for each other and Kabir leaves with a promise to come back. He decides otherwise and is then later confronted by Vaidya in Gurgaon, after which his true identity is revealed.
In the lead cast, the film features Ronit Agrawal as Vaidya who has appeared in several short films like The SMS, Last Drag, and A Meditation Over the Loneliness of Mr. X and will also be seen in the upcoming film Two Answers by Bandita Bora. Alongside Ronit stars Puneet Kumar Mishra as Kabir – an alumnus of National School of Drama – who has worked with seasoned theater personalities of the country and is being now noticed at Chaar Pandrah and The NCR: chapter one at MX player.
Vaidya was shot mainly at Mandrem and Candolim beaches of Goa and is written and produced by Harsh Agarwal who has teamed with Pawar as a director.
“The idea of the film was conceived when I was in Goa. But the production plan was much simpler. However, things evolved and we kept on getting the right people for the crew, and Vaidya was made. It’s not a quintessential queer film but is based on the more fundamental concept of love and togetherness as a whole.” Said, Harsh.
The film crew also includes cinematographers Shivam Borkar and Varun Katare, Rahul Tiwari and Mohosin Shaikh as the editors, and Himanshu Dahiya as the music composer for the film.
The short film is presented by The Qknit, a young LGBTQIA+ Collective established in 2015 that operates to create awareness about the rights and issues of Queer Individuals and Marginalised Women through online and offline events, online campaigns, monthly meetups, create movies, and more.
