Saoirse Ronan’s drama about addiction, The Outrun, has been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics for a fall theatrical release.
On October 4, the movie directed by Nora Fingscheidt, starring Ronan as a young Scottish lady from the Orkney Islands who repeatedly hits rock bottom before deciding to take control of her alcohol addiction, will be released in theatres. In collaboration with Stage 6 Films, Sony Pictures Classics will distribute the movie.
“The Outrun is a stunning movie, beautifully directed by Nora Fingscheidt with a career-best performance from Saoirse Ronan. It is a privilege to bring this accomplished and moving drama to audiences everywhere this fall,” Sony Pictures Classics explained in a statement.
The drama, which starred Paapa Essiedu, Stephen Dillane, and Saskia Reeves, debuted simultaneously at the Berlin and Sundance festivals earlier this year. The Outrun is a production of Brock Media and Arcade Pictures, presented by MBK Productions, Screen Scotland, and BBC Film.
The screenplay was co-written by Amy Liptrot and Fingscheidt, based on her memoir. Ronan, Jack Lowden, Sarah Brocklehurst, and Dominic Norris are producing the movie. Ronan, who appeared in the 2018 film adaptation of The Seagull, is reuniting with Sony Pictures Classics on this project.
”The Outrun is a film that means the world to everyone involved and we are delighted to have found a home at Sony Pictures Classics as our North American partners. Their taste and experience are inspiring, and we are excited to embark on this journey together,” explained filmmakers Fingscheidt, Brocklehurst, Norris, Lowden and Ronan in a statement.
On September 27, StudioCanal will release the movie in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
