On Wednesday, January 8, the Minot State University (MSU) Beavers men’s hockey team defeated the University of Mary 6-2 to win their fourth game of the season. While the #14 rated University of Mary fell to 16-7-0 on the season, the #2 ranked Beavers improved to 21-2-3 with the victory.

With Brett Tataryn’s goal at 10:16 during the first session, the Beavers took the lead and gave Minot State a 1-0 lead. Reid Arnold’s goal at 12:08 into the period gave the Beavers an immediate 2-0 lead.

Crae Dawson’s goal at 15:10 into the stanza gave the Marauders a response, bringing the score to 2-1. Colby Joseph’s penalty play goal at 17:47 into the game gave the Beavers a two-goal lead once more, bringing the score to 3-1. Joe Gronholz’s goal at 19:22 into the third put the Marauders within one goal, bringing the score to 3-2.

At 10:14 into the second period, the Beavers seized a 4-2 lead thanks to a penalty play goal from

Howard Sheldin. Reid Arnold’s power play goal, his second of the game, at 19:56 into the second period gave the Beavers a 5-2 lead just before the end of the period. Jake Anthony, the goalie for MSU, recorded six saves on six shots on goal in the second period, keeping the Marauders scoreless.MSU won 6-2 thanks to the lone goal they scored in the final period. At 7:53 during the third session, Walker Jerome gave the Beavers their first goal. With four stops on four attempts on goal in the final quarter, Jake Anthony kept the Marauders scoreless and helped the Beavers win.

The game’s assist totals went to Austin Clyne (3), Ryan Monias, Sheldin Howard, Reece Henry (2), Joey Moffatt, Brayden Pawluk, Matthew Yakubowski, and Colby Joseph. The Beavers’ top goalie, Jake Anthony, improved his record to 12-2-2 with 14 saves on 16 shots on goal.

The Beavers will return to action at home in a two-game series against Iowa State University after defeating the University of Mary 6-2. The Beavers will host Cancer Awareness Night on Friday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Maysa Arena, the day of the first game.

The Beavers will host Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, January 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Maysa Arena, where game two will take place.
