The new trailer for the autobiographical Lego film starring Pharrell Williams, a hip-hop sensation from Virginia Beach, has been released.
“Piece by Piece” uses animated Lego pieces to convey the tale of Williams’ artistic career.
Williams’s adult voice narrates the sequence as a Lego version of him strolling down a street is shown in the trailer:
“When I was a kid, I knew I was different, and people would say, ‘Oh that’s an odd child.’ And that crushed my spirit.”
The Lego child frowns.
“But I loved music,” Williams narrates. “It mesmerized me.”
A surprising smile appears on the little Lego’s face as the upbeat 2013 hit song “Get Lucky,” featuring Williams, by Daft Punk, begins to play.
A Lego-Williams is seen overcoming hardship, performing spontaneously in front of the camera, skating, singing with a rock band, and playing computer games as the teaser for the film proceeds. This looks to be a feel-good, family-friendly animated film.
October marks the theatrical premiere of “Piece by Piece,” which stars a number of well-known singers, including Timbaland, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, and Busta Rhymes, voicing their own Lego characters.
