Following closely behind Vembu is Falguni Nayar, founder of Nykaa, along with her family, with a net worth of Rs 32,200 crore. Right on their heels is Jayshree Ullal of Arista Networks, whose net worth is slightly lower at Rs 32,100 crore, earning her the third spot on the list.
Notably, Neha Bansal, the co-founder of Lenskart, has distinguished herself as the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur on the list, amassing a net worth of Rs 3,100 crore. Her remarkable achievement highlights the growing influence of young entrepreneurs in India’s wealth creation landscape.
In an interesting crossover between the entertainment industry and business, Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla has secured the sixth position on the list with a net worth of Rs 4,600 crore. Chawla, who co-owns the Kolkata Knight Riders cricket team, is recognized not only for her contributions to Indian cinema but also for her significant entrepreneurial ventures. In fact, under the Silver Screen Titans category, she and her family have claimed the second spot with the same net worth.
Bollywood continues to be a major player in wealth creation, as evidenced by the inclusion of other prominent stars in the 2024 Hurun India Rich List. Shah Rukh Khan, often hailed as the King of Bollywood, made a notable debut on the list with an impressive net worth of Rs 7,300 crore. Joining him are other well-known figures like Hrithik Roshan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Karan Johar, each of whom has made significant strides in both the entertainment and business worlds.
Reflecting on the broader trends, Anas Rahman Junaid, founder and chief researcher at Hurun India, remarked on the growing prevalence of self-made wealth in the country. He noted that an inspiring 65% of the individuals on the list are self-made, a notable increase from 54% just five years ago. Furthermore, 64% of this year’s new entrants are self-made, underscoring the dynamic and entrepreneurial spirit driving India’s economic growth.
Junaid emphasized that Hurun Report’s mission is to promote entrepreneurship through its detailed lists and research, adding that the narratives of those featured in the 2024 Hurun India Rich List are, in essence, a reflection of the broader story of the Indian economy.
