Tennis Premier League Season 6 will include former World No. 1 Rohan Bopanna. Bopanna is currently rated sixth in the world in the men’s doubles division.

Bopanna, one of the most renowned and popular tennis players in India, will compete in the Tennis Premier League for the first time.

The 44-year-old Bopanna has competed for India in three Olympic Games, placing fourth in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and winning two Grand Slam titles in the French Open in 2017 and the Australian Open in 2024 for men’s doubles. The brilliant Indian tennis player, who is from Bangalore, also boasts the distinction of being the oldest player to reach the top of the world rankings. He achieved this feat earlier in the year, at the end of January.

After Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Sania Mirza, he is the fourth Indian tennis player to be ranked #1 in the world. He has won over 25 career titles. The only four Indian Grand Slam champions who are also sponsors of this league are these four.

Bopanna, who has competed on the ATP Tour for nearly 20 years, will now play a different kind of tennis at the TPL. The league’s innovative 25-point concept has tennis fans enthralled, and each franchise will play a total of five games to earn a spot in the semi-finals.

Men’s, Women’s, Mixed Doubles, and Men’s Doubles matches will be played against two franchises. With 25 points assigned to each category, there will be 100 points up for grabs in every encounter between two franchises. At the league stage, each club will play five matches for a total of 500 points (100 points each), with the top four teams in the points standings advancing to the semi-finals.

Bopanna, who is well-travelled and experienced, will compete against players such as Sumit Nagal, Hugo Gaston of France, and Elina Avanesyan of Armenia for the top prize at the renowned Cricket Club of India. This venue has hosted some of the most famous tennis events in India’s history.

“I’m thrilled to become a part of the Tennis Premier League, especially with its innovative 25-point format. It’s a perfect way to wrap up the year. I believe that tournaments like the TPL, which are actively contributing to grassroots development, will inspire more young players.” explained Bopanna.

Speaking on the occasion, Kunal Thakkur, Co-Founder, Tennis Premier League, explained, “It is fantastic to have onboard with us the very dynamic Rohan Bopanna. His credentials and abilities are something we don’t need to touch upon for obvious reasons, and we are confident that his presence will not only give a boost to the sixth season of TPL but also motivate the other players that tad bit more, especially when there is a former World Number 1 on court.”

“Rohan Bopanna is one of the icons of Indian tennis, and we are elated to see that he will be playing in the TPL in Season 6. Not only will that have heads turning in Mumbai but also around the tennis world as well. We are looking forward to some great games of tennis with Rohan and the rest of the players,” explained Mrunal Jain Co-Founder, Tennis Premier League.
