Princess Anderson and Jayla Murray of Wichita State each scored a career-high 17 points during Monday night’s 74-45 victory over Prairie View A&M at Charles Koch Arena.

After transferring from Pratt CC, where she finished as the NJCAA’s top scorer with 26.7 points per game as a sophomore, Anderson scored 12 of her 17 points in the first half, tying her scoring high from the previous season. She finished the game 7 for 13 from the field without making a three-pointer, even though before this game she had made more than half of her shots this season.

As the Shockers scored 24 points off of 23 Panther turnovers, Anderson also recorded four of Wichita State’s 13 steals in a solid team defence.

Salese Blow scored her fourth double-figure scoring performance of the season with 13 points, and Murray shot 8-for-14 from the field and pulled down six rebounds to set her second career-high scoring total in three games.

In her fifth game, Bre’Yon White led the Shockers in rebounds with a team-high eight rebounds and nine points of her own.

With three assists from Murray and four each from Blow and Jameson, Wichita State recorded a season-high 17 assists.

Prairie View A&M shot 16-for-59 (.271) from the field, 16 percent below their season average, and the Shockers held them to only 45 points, their lowest scoring performance of the season.

A slow start in the first quarter for both teams saw Prairie View leading 8-7 with two minutes left in the first, but White and Anderson created some momentum for the Shockers, going on an 8-0 run by themselves to conclude the first.

The Shockers once again ended the quarter on a high note, with Jameson making a three-pointer in the final minute to give Wichita State an 18-point advantage at the half. Anderson continued that momentum into the second quarter, scoring seven more points.

Nyam Thornton of Prairie View gave the Panthers their first six points of the second half, but Blow’s six points and two three-pointers from Ornella Niankan and Jasmine Peaks prevented the Panthers from catching up.

Aicha Ndour scored all four of her points in the final period as the Shockers outscored the Panthers 19-7 to win by their widest margin of victory since Terry Nooner’s time. Murray was particularly hot in the fourth quarter, going 5-for-6 from the field and scoring 10 of her 17 points.

The Panthers drop to 2-4 as Wichita State gains ground to 3-5.

The Shockers’ next game is Thursday, December 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse against Kansas.
