The next Monsterverse film will be released on a date confirmed by Warner Bros. and Legendary. It has been disclosed that the sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, will open in theatres in 2027, just days before it opens at Max in July.
The next Monsterverse movie, which does not yet have a title, will open in theatres on March 26, 2027, according to Variety. This announcement comes after Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire had a great run in theatres. Having made almost $570 million at the global box office, the movie ranks third in terms of total earnings for the year. Additionally, it is the highest-grossing movie in the Monsterverse series overall as of right now.
A Sequel Was Put on the Fast Track
It makes sense that Legendary wants to get started on a sequel as soon as possible, considering the success. One issue with this was that Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard, who also directed Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, was already working on another movie. This meant that the next movie would have a new director, with David Callaham’s screenplay being directed by Grant Sputore.
On July 4, 2024, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will make its Max debut along with a special edition of the movie featuring American Sign Language.
