On Sunday, Manchester United defeated Fulham 1-0 in the Premier League thanks to a late deflection goal from Lisandro Martinez.

During a dull first half at Craven Cottage, United, looking for just their fourth league victory since Ruben Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November, failed to generate many meaningful chances.

Martinez’s long-range attempt took a big deflection before it into the goal in the 78th minute, but the team improved after halftime and got the lucky break they needed to win.

Young substitute Toby Collyer’s crucial goal-line clearance in the last seconds made sure the visitors kept their lead, and this win moved Amorim’s team up to 12th place in the rankings, four points behind Fulham in 10th place.

So far, Amorim’s time in England has not been good. United had lost six of their previous nine league games going into Sunday’s game.

The first half was dull, and the visitors seemed uninspired given their poor performance. In the first half, Emile Smith Rowe had the home team’s best chance, but he failed to take advantage of it.

The visitors almost had an early lead in the second half thanks to a deft free-kick from United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, but it took a bit of luck for their first and only on-target attempt of the game to end up in the net.

Fulham substitute Rodrigo Muniz had two excellent chances to square the score in the final seconds, but Collyer’s vital stop to stop Joachim Andersen’s header from going in was key.

Even though Amad Diallo thought he had won the three points when he scored in stoppage time, a VAR review showed that he was offside.

United has now won four of its last five games in all competitions after defeating Fulham in the league for the eighth time in a row.
