The main character is Gotya, a young Brahmin who, after failing to poison Munni, the woman he loves, turns into a vindictive spirit known as Munjya. In Konkan, Munjya haunts a peepal tree. Years later, during Munjya’s return, Bittu, a hairstylist plagued by visions of the tree, succumbs to the spirit of the tree. Munjya wants to wed and sacrifice Bela, but Bittu, with the help of an exorcist and his buddy Speilberg, overcomes Munjya by setting the tree on fire. The spirit’s traces, nevertheless, imply that it might not be completely gone.
