The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson, hit theatres on April 19. The Numbers reports that the movie has made $18.4 million in domestic box office receipts and slightly over $286,000 in foreign receipts, for a total of $18.7 million in worldwide receipts to far.

The picture, which is partially based on a real-life operation led by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill during World War II, had a $60 million production budget, according to IMDb. This amount does not include expenditures associated with printing and advertising.

Lionsgate Films is releasing the movie on premium video on demand this Friday in an apparent attempt to recover the costs of marketing and production. The movie may be purchased on digital platforms like AppleTV+ and Prime Video for $24.99. There will also be a digital renting option for the film.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, billed as an action war drama, is a dramatised account of Operation Postmaster, a real-life World War II mission.

Operation Postmaster, an undercover operation ordered by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, was the country’s first-ever special forces operation in World War II. Previously referred to as the Special Operations Executive, the mission’s goal is to obstruct a Nazi U-Boat supply operation near the West African coast.

Among them are Gus March-Phillips (played by Henry Cavill in Man of Steel), Anders Lassen (Alan Ritchson in Reacher), Marjorie Stewart (Eiza González in Three Body Problem), and Ian Fleming (Freddie Fox), who would later write the renowned James Bond spy series. Primarily, Rory Kinnear portrays Prime Minister Churchill.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Cary Elwes, Babs Olusanmokun, Henry Golding, and Alex Pettyfer are also featured in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Rotten Tomatoes reviewers gave The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare a 72 percent positive rating out of 123 reviews, indicating a mediocre reception from them.

With over 500 verified user ratings giving the movie a 93% positive rating, the site’s Audience Score was significantly higher.
