In India, Mercedes-Benz has introduced its renowned G 580 EQ SUV, which now boasts an electric heart.

The car, which costs ₹3 crore (ex-showroom), is the ideal blend of luxury and durability, and it emits no tailpipe emissions.

The introduction is a component of Mercedes’ strategy to meet India’s growing need for high-end EVs.

G 580 EQ: A blend of tradition and innovation

The ICE-powered G-Wagen’s classic look is carried over into the G 580 EQ.

Instead of the conventional grille, it has a closed-off front panel with optional lit accents.

For increased convenience, purchasers may now swap out the traditional spare wheel for a square storage box thanks to the reworking of the bumpers.

G 580 EQ’s electric powertrain and performance

With the help of four electric motors and a 117kWh battery pack, the G 580 EQ can generate 587 horsepower and an incredible 1,164Nm of torque.

The car can go from zero to 100 km/h in five seconds and go about 420 km on a single charge.

The SUV has features found on other high-end Mercedes EVs, but it also keeps some stylistic cues from its engine twin despite its size.

G 580 EQ’s off-road capabilities and interior features

For off-road excursions, the G 580 EQ is equipped with protection strips and wheels that are aerodynamically optimised. It can climb grades as steep as 70% and wade through water as deep as 850mm.

The latest version of Mercedes’ proprietary MBUX system, an Off-Road Cockpit for controlling differential locks and LOW RANGE settings, and a three-point steering arrangement with mounted controls are all included in the interior.
