Kanguva, Suriya and Bobby Deol’s film witnesses growth takes India total to nearly ₹54 cr at box office collection on fourth day

On its fourth day at the box office, Kanguva managed to recover from a slight decline, performing well on Sunday. The fantasy action epic, featuring Suriya and Bobby Deol, has seen a mixed reception from critics but continues to draw audiences in India. According to Sacnilk, the film, directed by Siva, surpassed the ₹50 crore milestone in its extended opening weekend across five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Kanguva began its journey with an impressive ₹24 crore on its opening day, Thursday. However, its Friday earnings dropped significantly to ₹9.50 crore. Saturday saw a minor increase, with collections rising to ₹9.85 crore, before Sunday brought a further uptick, with the film adding ₹10.50 crore to its total. These figures brought the extended opening weekend collection to ₹53.85 crore domestically. While the numbers reflect a strong start, the noticeable decline after the opening day suggests that the film’s mixed reviews are beginning to impact its box office performance.

Produced by UV Creations and Studio Green, Kanguva marks the Tamil cinema debut of Bobby Deol and Disha Patani. The movie, helmed by K E Gnanavel Raja, also features notable performances by Jagapathi Babu and Yogi Babu in key roles. Promoted as a “mighty valiant saga” spanning generations, the film pits Bobby Deol as the antagonist, following his acclaimed role in last year’s blockbuster Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Despite its grand premise and star-studded cast, Kanguva has faced criticism for elements such as excessive violence, overly dramatic dialogue delivery, and a loud background score by Devi Sri Prasad. Critics have pointed out that the action sequences lack innovation, with gruesome violence like the chopping of multiple hands, and that the war scenes evoke strong parallels to popular Viking-themed series streaming on OTT platforms. These drawbacks have dampened the film’s reception, but its initial box office numbers still reflect significant interest from fans.
