Prabhas’ latest film, “Kalki 2898 AD,” a sprawling dystopian sci-fi action epic directed by Nag Ashwin, has made an indelible mark on the global box office since its release on June 27. Within just four days, the film has amassed an impressive global gross of Rs 555 crore, with the Hindi version contributing Rs 115 crore alone.
The production team celebrated this milestone on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), announcing, “555 CRORES & counting… The BIGGEST FORCES are dominating the GLOBAL BOX OFFICE, show no signs of slowing down.”
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh highlighted the film’s robust performance, noting a significant surge in earnings on Sunday and describing its reception as “TERRIFIC.” He underscored the audience’s enthusiastic embrace of the film, emphasizing that “Content is KING and audiences are KING MAKERS.”
“Kalki 2898 AD” has maintained its momentum across various regions worldwide. It achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian film to surpass $11 million (approximately Rs 90.2 crore) in its opening weekend in North America, solidifying its global appeal. In Canada, it stands as the highest-grossing Telugu film to date.
Domestically, the film’s performance has been equally impressive. According to Sacnilk, “Kalki 2898 AD” earned an estimated Rs 85 crore on Sunday alone, pushing its total domestic collection to Rs 302 crore. This achievement surpasses the previous record set by Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan,” which earned Rs 286 crore within the same timeframe in 2023.
Further dissecting its domestic revenue, the Telugu release of “Kalki 2898 AD” led with Rs 162.1 crore, followed by the Hindi edition at Rs 110.5 crore, Tamil at Rs 18.3 crore, Malayalam at Rs 9.7 crore, and Kannada at Rs 1.8 crore by the conclusion of its debut weekend.
Within a mere three days, “Kalki 2898 AD” rose to become the top-grossing Indian film of 2024 and secured the third-highest global opening for any Indian movie in history. While it surpassed the initial day earnings of hits like “KGF 2” and “Jawan,” it remains behind “RRR” and “Baahubali 2,” which hold the leading positions with Rs 223 crore and Rs two hundred and seventeen crore during their respective debut days.
Given Prabhas’ association with “Baahubali 2,” “Kalki 2898 AD” now stands as his second-biggest opener, marking a significant milestone in his career and solidifying its place in cinematic history with its extraordinary box office performance.
