Set aside On Wednesday night, Arizona State defeated Cal Poly 93-89, Jaden Quaintance earned a double-double, while Joson Sanon scored 22 points.

For the Sun Devils (5-1), Adam Miller scored 16 points, Alston Mason scored 14, BJ Freeman scored 13, Basheer Jihad scored 11, and Quaintance scored 11 in addition to 12 rebounds.

Cal Poly remained within striking distance as Kieran Elliott made a layup and Peter Bandelj made a three-pointer with 15 minutes left, bringing the Mustangs (3-3) within 59-51 after Arizona State had led the second half.

Bandelj made another three-pointer with 4:15 remaining to cut Arizona State’s deficit to 77-76. With 2:25 remaining, Jihad converted one of two free throws to put ASU ahead 82-80. Jihad returned to the line and converted both free shots to give Cal Poly a four-point advantage after Jarred Hyder missed a 3-point attempt.

With 16 seconds remaining, Hyder scored a three-pointer to cut Cal Poly’s deficit to 89-87. Sanon and Hyder both made a pair, and Freeman completed the game with two foul shots with six seconds remaining.

Hyder made 9 of 18 shots, including 7 of 14 from three, to score 27 points. Cal Poly’s Isaac Jessup scored 17 points and Elliott scored 14 on 6 of 7 shots.

Arizona State’s record versus the Mustangs is now 7-1 overall.
