On Sunday at Evergreen Racquet Club, Illinois State women’s tennis defeated Bradley 6-1 despite dropping the doubles match. They won 6-0 in singles play.
With this victory, the Redbirds won three in a row to improve to 13-6 overall and 4-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Belogliadova, Anna At No. 3, BU’s Alexandra Hildreth upset Zoe Limparis and Nuria Sanz of ISU to begin doubles play. With a 6-2 victory at No. 2, Nevena Kolarevic and Silvia Pomarolli levelled the score in doubles play for the Redbirds. At the top of the order, BU’s Kirstin Hailey and Andra Sirbu defeated Redbirds Lana Caculovic and Tijana Zlatanovic to win the point.
At No. 2 in singles, Caculovic defeated Belogliadova 6-2, 6-3 to put the Redbirds ahead. ISU took the lead with to Sofia Rodrigo’s 6-3, 6-1 victory over Hildreth at the bottom of the lineup. Zlatanovic defeated Maria Bezmenova of BU in back-to-back 6-1 sets at the top of the rankings.
Sanz was fighting to force a tiebreaker at No. 5 when BU’s Mariia Pukhina was forced to retire, giving the Redbirds the match-securing fourth point.
Pomarolli lost her opening set 7-5 to Andra Sirbu of the Braves at No. 4, but she bounced back to win 6-1 and win the tiebreak 11-9. Kolarevic won 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at No. 3 to end the game.
