WhatsApp, the widely-used messaging platform with over a billion users in India, is reportedly working on introducing a new feature that allows users to customize chat themes. This upcoming feature will enable users to personalize their chat windows with various preset themes, enhancing the overall appearance of their conversations.
According to WABetaInfo, a source known for tracking upcoming WhatsApp updates, these custom chat themes are currently being tested on the WhatsApp v2.24.20.12 beta version for Android. Reports from Android Authority, which has accessed and activated some of these themes, indicate that while there are multiple color presets to choose from, only a few are currently functional.
When the feature becomes available to all users, they will have the option to select from a wider array of wallpapers, which will also complement and modify the chat bubbles. Additionally, WhatsApp is likely to introduce an option for users to adjust the darkness level, allowing for a smoother transition between light and dark modes, or vice versa.
One key aspect of these chat themes is that they are set to apply universally across all chats by default. However, WhatsApp may introduce the ability to assign specific themes to particular conversations. It’s also worth noting that, unlike Instagram’s themes, these customizations will only be visible to the user, meaning that the other party in the conversation won’t see the changes.
While this feature is still in development, it is expected to be rolled out to users in the near future. In a related update, Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, recently previewed a feature that will allow WhatsApp and Messenger users to communicate with people on other apps. This initiative is part of Meta’s effort to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which mandates interoperability between messaging platforms.
The upcoming chat themes feature, combined with Meta’s push towards cross-platform communication, signifies a broader effort to provide more customization and flexibility to WhatsApp users while adhering to regulatory requirements.
