Compact SUVs have surged in popularity in recent years due to their attractive design and reliable performance, and now the Indian market is set for an exciting shift with the upcoming introduction of two new models from Kia and Skoda: the Kia Syros and Skoda Kylaq. Both vehicles promise to bring fresh features and style to the compact SUV segment.

Kia India is preparing to launch its all-new compact SUV, expected to be named Syros for its petrol version, with an electric variant possibly called Clavis. The Syros is likely to be unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025, positioning itself between the Kia Sonet and Seltos in the brand’s lineup. With a boxy shape, signature Tiger Nose grille, and vertical LED lights, the Syros aims to stand out. It will sit on 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and come equipped with high-end features like dual 10.2-inch touchscreens, wireless smartphone connectivity, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and ventilated front seats. Safety will be a priority with a 360-degree camera, six airbags, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Powering the Syros will be a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 116 bhp, with CNG and hybrid variants under consideration. The petrol model is expected to hit the market by mid-2025 with a price tag of approximately Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom), followed by an electric version six months later.

On the other hand, Skoda is gearing up to introduce its own compact SUV, the Kylaq, in early 2025. Targeting the competitive sub-4 meter SUV segment, the Kylaq will face off against popular models like the Mahindra XUV 3OO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Brezza. Inspired by the Skoda Kushaq, the Kylaq is expected to feature modern amenities such as an 8-inch or 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless connectivity, a digital driver’s display, and an electric sunroof. Built on the refined MQB AO IN platform, the Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that generates 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, with transmission options including both a 6-speed manual and automatic.

These upcoming releases from Kia and Skoda signal a dynamic transformation in India’s compact SUV segment, bringing more variety and innovation to an increasingly competitive market.
