The Miami Heat defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 134-93 on Wednesday night, setting a franchise record for assists and Tyler Herro scoring 21 of his 31 points in the third quarter.
The Heat’s 42 assists were one more than their 41 from their March 29 matchup with Portland. The 41-point victory margin was the third-largest in team history, and they tied another franchise record with 24 3-pointers.
Bam Adebayo had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists for the Heat, while Jimmy Butler scored 17 points.
The Lakers, who have lost six of eight games, including their past two by a combined score of 70 points, had 29 points from LeBron James. The Lakers added 14 points thanks to Rui Hachimura.
CELTICS 130, PISTONS 120
Boston (AP) — With 28 points and nine assists from Jaylen Brown and 26 points and nine rebounds from Kristaps Porzingis, Boston defeated Detroit to win their ninth straight game.
Payton Pritchard scored 19 points off the bench for Boston, while Derrick White finished with 14 points and 11 assists. Less than four minutes into the game, the Celtics led 18–4 and then 20 points after scoring 12 in a row.
Until Detroit made four consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to cut the Celtics’ advantage to eight points, 109-101, forcing Boston coach Joe Mazzulla to substitute Brown, the team maintained a double-digit lead. Tobias Harris’ 3-pointer in the last minute had the Pistons within five points, but Pritchard’s three-pointer clinched the victory.
For Detroit, Cade Cunningham finished with nine rebounds, 14 assists, and 27 points. Malik Beasley scored 23 points off the bench, and Harris scored 27 points as well.
MAGIC 106, 76ERS 102
AP (Philadelphia) — Jalen Suggs scored 17 points and Franz Wagner scored 35 to help Orlando defeat Philadelphia.
Wagner led the Magic past the Sixers, who were shorthanded, by making 12 of 23 3-pointers and converting all 10 of their free throw attempts.
The city of Philadelphia was not at its best. Due to rest or injury, Joel Embiid, Paul George, Andre Drummond, and Kyle Lowry did not play.
The Sixers, a preseason favourite in the Eastern Conference, fell to 5-15. Embiid, who has only appeared in four games this season, might play on Friday when the teams return to Philadelphia, according to coach Nick Nurse.
Before breaking a game tie in the fourth and helping the Magic extend their lead, Wagner scored 25 points in the first three quarters.
Suggs hit four of Orlando’s eight 3-pointers.
Philadelphia’s first-round selection, Jared McCain, scored 24 points and is now a strong contender for Rookie of the Year. Tyrese Maxey was sixteen.
NETS 99, PACERS 90
NEW YORK (AP) — Brooklyn ended a three-game losing streak by defeating Indiana, led by 26 points from Cam Johnson and 16 from Nic Claxton.
Shake Milton scored 15 points for the Nets after coming off the bench.
Tyrese Haliburton scored 13 points for Indiana, while T.J. McConnell scored 14. The Pacers have dropped seven out of ten games and four straight.
The Nets answered with a 10-0 run after Indiana’s Pascal Siakam scored four baskets in a row to level the game at 80 with 8:08 left. Jaylen Wilson’s shot with 5:57 left made it 90-80.
HAWKS 119, BUCKS 104
MILWAUKEE (AP) — With 23 points and 13 rebounds from Jalen Johnson, Atlanta ended Milwaukee’s winning run at seven games.
The Hawks increased their winning streak to five games with 20 points from De’Andre Hunter, 17 from Trae Young, 15 from Bogdan Bogdanovic, 13 from Onyeka Okongwu, and 12 from Zaccharie Risacher. 17 rebounds were added by Clint Capela.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Gary Trent Jr. scored 11 points off the bench, and Damian Lillard contributed 25 points. Milwaukee’s top 3-point shooter, Taurean Prince, scored seven points in the first quarter but didn’t score again until the end of the fourth quarter, when he finished with ten points.
Milwaukee dropped to 11-10, while the Hawks improved to 12-11. In the Eastern Conference, the teams are tied for fifth place.
TIMBERWOLVES 108, CLIPPERS 80
Los Angeles (AP) — Minnesota easily defeated Los Angeles after Julius Randle scored 16 of his 20 points in the first quarter and Anthony Edwards added 16.
Randle scored all of his points, including four 3-pointers, in the first half to help Minnesota win for the third time in a row after dropping four straight. The Timberwolves had a 27-point lead at the half and a 41-point lead at the end of the second half.
With 18 points, including a season-high five 3-pointers, Bones Hyland led the Clippers. 14 points were scored by Derrick Jones Jr.
The Clippers’ winning streak of nine games at home was ended.
