Guardian Media Group and OpenAI announced a strategic relationship that would increase the amount of high-quality journalism from the Guardian’s editorial material available to ChatGPT’s users worldwide.
This collaboration will give ChatGPT’s 300 million weekly users worldwide immediate access to and in-depth summaries of the Guardian’s reliable reporting. By connecting its work with interested audiences worldwide, this seeks to increase Guardian’s reach.
Links to obtain information and transparency will be provided by content that is credited to the Guardian.
In order to create new tools, services, and products for its readers as well as for business operations, The Guardian will also be implementing ChatGPT Enterprise throughout the company.
The Guardian Media Group is the publisher of The Guardian newspaper, which was first published as the Manchester Guardian more than 200 years ago, and theguardian.com, one of the biggest English-speaking, high-quality news websites in the world.
The statement was made a year after the Guardian released its AI strategy, which focuses on using generative AI for the benefit of its readers, company, and larger purpose while maintaining human control.
“This new partnership with OpenAI reflects the intellectual property rights and value associated with our award-winning journalism, expanding our reach and impact to new audiences and innovative platform services,” stated Keith Underwood, Chief Financial and Operating Officer of Guardian Media Group.
“Our partnership with Guardian Media Group furthers our goal of supporting world-class journalism and enriches the ChatGPT experience by providing access to relevant, timely news content. It’s part of our overall strategy to help publishers and audiences benefit from advanced AI technology,” said Brad Lightcap, OpenAI COO.
