WhatsApp is introducing a new ‘Event’ feature, designed to streamline the organization of meetings, gatherings, and other events directly within group chats. The popular messaging platform, owned by Meta, has been rolling out various new features through beta updates in recent months. The latest addition, the Event feature, now allows users to create events within group chats, a functionality previously limited to the Communities section.

According to WABetaInfo, this feature began rolling out to a select group of beta testers with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.20 update. It will soon become available to other beta users and, eventually, to all users through a stable update. The aim is to simplify the process of organizing meetings or activities directly within WhatsApp chats, making it more convenient for users.

The ‘Event’ icon can be accessed through the clip menu within group chats, enabling users to seamlessly create and manage events. This feature allows for easy event creation, where users can set up details such as time, date, and location. Additionally, there are plans to expand the Event feature’s functionality, including the ability to add event reminders and set cover photos for each event.

Members of the group can view and accept invitations once an event has been made. The creator retains the ability to update event details as needed. Importantly, like all messages on WhatsApp, these events are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and confidentiality for all participants involved.

While WhatsApp has not provided a definitive timeline for the global rollout of the Events feature, it is expected to be available to all users within the coming weeks. Besides this new functionality, WhatsApp has also introduced several other features to enhance user experience. These include the ability to add up to 32 members via group calls and the integration of an AI chatbot.

The addition of the Event feature, along with these other enhancements, reflects WhatsApp’s commitment to improving its platform and providing users with more versatile and secure communication tools. As the rollout continues, users can look forward to more efficient ways to organize and manage their group activities directly within the app.
