Google Maps users can now enjoy a smoother experience on CarPlay, as a recent fix resolves a glitch that previously blocked the route preview before starting turn-by-turn navigation.
You may have noticed recently that turn-by-turn navigation no longer provides a route preview before you leave if you use Google Maps on Apple CarPlay. Before navigation actually starts, maps typically expand out to display a preview of the entire route, giving you a quick look at your destination and any traffic conditions.
However, as several Reddit users have pointed out, that’s suddenly not showing in CarPlay.
The shift appears to have begun a little more than a week ago and coincided with recent improvements to the Google Maps app. During our testing, we noticed a fault where the route preview would appear for about a second before zooming back in to a street-level glimpse. The extent of the issue is unclear.
However, Google seems to have resolved this issue with the most recent Maps version. Maps is once more displaying enlarged route previews on CarPlay. The behavior we are experiencing is being observed by at least one other user.
Such oddities are regrettably not very unusual for automobile screens. To put it mildly, Maps on Android Auto also had to address a display issue earlier this month where the maps would center on the screen instead of the user interface.
Look for updates in the App Store if you’re still experiencing issues with Google Maps route previews on CarPlay.
