The American electronics giant Apple is apparently ready to switch its iPhone charging port from a lightning to USB-C as the default charging method for its upcoming iPhone 15 series, following months of pressure and rejection.
Apple releases a possible change date
According to a Bloomberg story, Apple has scheduled September 12 for its iPhone 15 event, as the corporation also plans to revolutionize gadget production with 3D printers.
However, if the business had its way, it would continue to use the Lightning connector until a few more years had passed before it could completely stop using ports on its smartphones.
But the European Union forced its hand after the parliament of the 27-nation bloc approved new regulations requiring tech companies to guarantee the introduction of a universal charging port for electronic devices like mobile phones, tablets, cameras, e-readers, earbuds, and other by the end of next year.
In October 2022, the proposal received 602 votes in favor and 13 votes against it. In light of this, the EU parliament’s vote upholds the earlier decision to standardize USB-C chargers for Android devices across the continent.
In order to reduce e-waste, all devices sold in the EU will be required to have the same charging port. Bloomberg claims that when the firm reveals the iPhone 15 later this month, its four new phone models and the AirPods Pro will use USB-C ports.
Notably, Apple replaced the charging port for its iPhones for the second time in company history after doing away with the 30-pin Dock connector with the iPhone 5 over ten years ago.
Users receive benefits from the modification
Apple will reportedly also highlight the switch to USB-C ports as a major win for customers at the next event. Users will now be permitted to utilize a single charging cable for several Apple products, including as iPhones, Macs, and iPads, in accordance with the new regulation.
According to reports, the change would also enable new, high-end iPhone models to transport data at unprecedented speeds.
But maybe one of the major advantages of the future iPhone 15 series is that users won’t need to rush to find an Apple charger while they are away from home because they can borrow one from someone who doesn’t use an Apple device.
