Designed to be thinner than ever before, Apple’s iPhone 17 Slim will redefine smartphone design

Apple is gearing up to redefine smartphone design with the upcoming iPhone 17 Slim, slated to be the thinnest smartphone in the world upon its release next year. This addition to the iPhone 17 lineup is expected to replace one of the existing models, potentially the Plus version from the iPhone 16 series. Measuring an astonishing 6mm in thickness, the device is rumored to also carry the moniker iPhone 17 Air, signaling its ultra-sleek design.

The iPhone 17 Slim is poised to make waves with its incredibly thin profile, a feat that hasn’t been achieved by Apple since its earlier designs nearly a decade ago. Prior to the iPhone 6, Apple’s smartphones varied in thickness between 7.6mm and 12.3mm, while the current iPhone 16 series ranges from 7.8mm to 8.25mm. Analyst Jeff Poo has hinted at the significant engineering innovations required for this device, which will likely feature an aluminium body for reduced weight and thickness. Meanwhile, the Pro models will continue to use titanium, maintaining a premium distinction.

Performance upgrades are at the forefront of the iPhone 17 Slim/Air, which is expected to house a 6.6-inch display and run on the advanced A19 Bionic chipset built with 3nm technology. This chipset, combined with 8GB of RAM, is set to deliver exceptional speed and efficiency. Camera technology will see major enhancements as well, with the front-facing selfie camera upgraded to 24MP, a notable leap from the current 12MP sensor. On the rear, a single 48MP camera is anticipated, emphasizing quality over quantity.

Visually, the iPhone 17 Slim/Air is rumored to deviate from the design language of other models in the series, introducing fresh aesthetics. Features like Face ID and advanced AI capabilities are expected to enhance user experience. Furthermore, Apple might surprise the market by launching its most affordable iPhone alongside this innovative model, possibly as part of its global lineup in September next year.
