OnePlus has launched a new initiative to address the persistent green line issue affecting AMOLED screens in certain phone models. This hardware problem, often mistaken for a software-related issue, has been a common concern across various smartphone brands. Unlike others, OnePlus is proactively offering free screen replacements as part of its Red Cable Club loyalty program.
The offer was first highlighted by a user named Starcommander on X (formerly Twitter), who discovered it in the Red Cable Club section of OnePlus devices. This program specifically targets users of the OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9R models experiencing display issues. To qualify, devices must be free of physical damage and unauthorized repairs. The offer is currently available to users in India, accessible through the Settings section under the Red Cable Club.
OnePlus explained to Android Authority that the initiative includes three tiers of service. The first tier, “Comprehensive Diagnostics,” involves a detailed assessment of the screen’s performance and reliability. The second tier, “Screen Upgrades and Replacements,” provides eligible users with a new, advanced display panel. These upgraded screens are designed for better performance, offering vibrant colors and increased durability, especially in high-humidity and high-temperature environments. The final tier, “Deep Cleaning Service,” offers a complimentary, thorough cleaning of the device.
OnePlus has partnered with its suppliers to develop these new screens, tailored for older models that are no longer on the market. These screens are engineered to be more resistant to moisture and environmental conditions, promising a longer lifespan and improved user experience.
The company encourages users to visit service centers for diagnostics to determine if their device qualifies for the free upgrade. Devices showing signs of user-caused damage, such as drops or water intrusion, are not eligible for this free replacement and should instead be serviced through OnePlus’s standard after-sales service.
