Ramdev’s press conference on research on Corona.
Baba Ramdev of Patanjali Yogpeeth has relaunched the medicine for Covid-19. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari were also present at the press conference on Friday along with Ramdev. Ramdev claimed that this drug from the Patanjali Research Institute is certified by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is claimed that WHO has given it a certificate of GMP i.e. ‘Good Manufacturing Practice’. Ramdev said that this drug is ‘evidence-based’. Ramdev has also launched a research book on this occasion. Ramdev said, “Nine research papers in the context of Coronil have been published in the world’s highest impact research journals. 16 research papers are in the pipeline.”
There was a lot of controversy over the corona kit.
Patanjali launched the ‘Corona Kit’ in June last year. There was a lot of controversy on this. The Ministry of AYUSH had said that Patanjali can sell ‘Coronil’ only by saying that it can ‘enhance immunity’ of the body. Ramdev then launched ‘Coronil’ as a Covid-19 drug, but after the controversy, he started calling it a drug to reduce the effect of the disease. Ramdev had said in a press conference that “the ministry has asked him to use the word ‘covid management’ instead of ‘treatment of Covid’.”
On 23 June 2020, Ramdev launched ‘Coronil’, claiming to cure Covid-19 patients. The controversy broke out in the country as soon as it was launched. The AYUSH department of Uttarakhand had also issued a notice to Patanjali Ayurveda saying that no permission or license to manufacture medicines for Corona was obtained.
