The first quarter of next year will see the launch of the 2025 Jaecoo J7 PHEV in Australia.
For a total system output of 255kW and 525Nm, the J7 PHEV SHS combines a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine, an electric motor, and an 18kWh battery pack.
Although specific outputs for the petrol engine and electric motor have not been disclosed, the smaller Omoda 5 SUV’s 1.5-liter turbocharged engine from Chery generates 210 Nm and 108kW.
Jaecoo explained the 1.5-litre engine in the J7 PHEV delivers 44.5 per cent thermal efficiency and ‘fuel supply on demand’ to optimise “every drop of fuel”.
The SUV’s driving range in electric-only mode is 90 kilometres, according to the European WLTP lab-test standard.
Four driving modes are available for the J7 PHEV SHS: electric-only, series hybrid, in which the gasoline motor serves as a generator, parallel hybrid, in which the gasoline and electric motors cooperate, and “energy recovery,” which prioritises battery recharge.
Improved aerodynamic side mirrors, a distinctive 19-inch alloy wheel design, and a redesigned rear bumper without faux exhaust outlets are some of the exterior alterations made to the regular J7.
A column-mounted gear selector, horizontal cup holders, drive mode controls, a dual door centre armrest, and an alternative door skin with a “minimalist” latch design are all included inside the J7 PHEV.
Alongside the gasoline-only variant, the 2025 Jaecoo J7 PHEV SHS is scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms between January and March of next year.
The Jaecoo brand, which will operate with distinct showrooms from Chery, will make its debut in Australia on this date.
Based on the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, the J7 is a mid-size SUV with a nearly comparable wheelbase and the same 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (137kW/275Nm) for gasoline-only models.
A 14.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 360-degree camera, a wireless phone charger, LED headlights, front fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, and power-adjustable front seats are among the standard features confirmed for Australia.
The off-road-styled J6 and the seven-seat J8 that are available worldwide have not yet been confirmed for Australian markets, but the J5 small SUV will join the Jaecoo lineup in Australia later in 2025.
The Omoda C9, which has been authorised for sale in Australia, is available in Malaysia.
