May may finally see the release of new iPads from Apple, including a brand-new iPad Air model with OLED screens.
“Early May” is scheduled as the launch window for the upcoming iPad generation, according to insiders with deep knowledge of Apple’s intentions, as reported by Bloomberg reporter and Apple tipster Mark Gurman.
It was initially anticipated that new iPads would ship in March or April, but Gurman stated that delivery delays were caused by issues with OLED display manufacturing and getting the software ready for the new tablets.
As previously reported, Apple is anticipated to release new iPad Pro models with OLED screens, and the so-called iPad Air 6 is expected to receive an update and a new 12.9-inch model that will provide a big-screen iPadOS experience without having to shell out a lot of money for the more costly 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
Stronger, more elegant accessories
According to Gurman, the iPad Pros will feature the Apple M3 chip, which is seen in the most recent MacBook Air 13-inch, and will go by the codenames J717, J718, J720, and J721.
It’s also anticipated that the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard will be updated on these upcoming iPad Pro models. However, Gurman’s most recent report made no mention of the precise shape that these changes will take. It’s possible to propose different keyboard methods, greater positional flexibility, and perhaps increased sensitivity and accuracy using the Apple Pen.
Upgrades for the iPad Air are probably going to focus more on the chip, maybe going for an M3, which would be a significant improvement above the M1 chip the iPad Air currently sports. Although 10.9-inch tablets may not be necessary given the rise of foldable phones and larger smartphones, an iPad Air with a larger display could be one way to give iPads a boost in popularity. An almost 13-inch screen would be much more tempting.
Should Apple indeed release new iPads in May, it would be quite close to WWDC 2024, which is scheduled for June 10 of this year.
