Google is extending its Gemini features by integrating its top AI models into its productivity tools.
The business today revealed a number of enhancements to its Workspace products, such as the inclusion of Audio Overviews and new, more efficient meeting tracking techniques.
Audio Overviews, which was first featured in Google’s popular NotebookLM, allows people to record podcasts on their selected research topic.
Gemini now allows users to produce audio recordings from uploaded slides and papers. They can also generate audio overviews within deep research papers. You can download these audio recordings in the format of podcasts. Audio Overview uses the given papers as the only basis for its conversations and creates voices.
Additionally, the business introduced Canvas in Gemini, a new feature that enables users to write and revise text or code using the Gemini architecture. Canvas aids in “generating, optimizing, and previewing code,” according to Google. Canvas documents can be shared with Google Docs.
Calendars that have been updated
Google also made it easier for users to schedule meetings and activities. If an email contains event details, Gemini will recognize it and encourage recipients to mark it on their calendar. If the user overlooks emails with possible appointments, the model will highlight them.
To notify the user of the event, the Gemini-powered calendar feature will launch a Gemini chat window.
A key component of enterprise AI assistants and agents is pointing AI models to surface facts or events from emails. The new agents at Microsoft sift through emails to get feedback. Calendars, emails, and to-do lists are all managed by the AI assistant developed by startup Martin AI.
Combining productivity with generative AI
In order to combine the stand-alone chat platform with Gmail, Google Docs, and Calendars, Google included Gemini Chat to Workspace last year. As a result, Google became more similar to Microsoft’s Copilot, which integrated AI models into Outlook and other productivity apps.
Enterprises continue to introduce AI capabilities to the workplace, and it’s feasible that if their employees regularly use things like Gemini on their Gmails and utilize AI models for research, AI adoption rates may be even higher.
