Google appears to be gearing up for yet another update to Google Messages, and like many recent changes, this one is primarily aesthetic.
In the latest beta version of Google Messages, Android Authority discovered a fresh Start chat user interface. This updated design aligns with the anticipated changes to the search interface.
While these modifications might seem minor, they are noticeable to attentive users of Google Messages. However, they are not drastic enough to cause confusion, as the overall layout remains intact.
The first noticeable change is the introduction of more rounded design elements. The text input field at the top of the New conversation page has transitioned from a rectangular shape to a pill-like form. The “Create group” button has been enlarged for better visibility, and Gemini is now presented in a card with rounded edges. Each contact now has its own individual card as well.
When selecting a contact on the “New group chat” page, it appears in a gray oblong container, with similar updates applied to the “Add group name” page.
These enhancements are thought to be part of a broader interface overhaul initiative known as “Cool Ranch Phase 3.”
Currently, these updates are not yet live, and just because Google is testing them doesn’t guarantee they will be released to the public.
If Google decides to implement these changes, it may take a few months before they become available, as is typical with rumored features. For instance, the chat bubble animation that was leaked in January has only recently begun to roll out.
Another recent improvement includes a redesign of the text field, making it larger, along with an enlarged voice note shortcut.
Such updates enhance the app’s usability, especially since it has become the default messaging app for many Android users.
