Toyota has unveiled the final production version of the Urban Cruiser EV, a year after revealing the Maruti eVX-based Urban SUV concept. Although it is somewhat smaller, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV has many design elements with the newly unveiled Suzuki e Vitara, which will be sold in India under the Maruti brand.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Design and Dimensions

Naturally, a lot of the concept’s design elements have been simplified for the finished production model. Although the headlights and grille are still small, they are not as thin as those in the idea, and the radiator portion on the front bumper is less angular. The majority of the two-box e-SUV’s side features have been kept from the concept, and its black plastic cladding gives it the necessary SUV characteristics. Toyota will provide 18-inch or 19-inch aero-optimized wheels for the Urban Cruiser EV. The Urban Cruiser EV’s rear door handles are located in the C-pillar, just as the e Vitara.

Toyota’s new “born-EV” has a hefty rear bumper, a roof spoiler, and taillights that are a scaled-down but longer version of the concept. The Urban Cruiser and the e Vitara share a lot of rear-end styling similarities.

The born-electric SUV’s overall length (4,285mm) and width (1,800mm) have decreased by roughly 15mm and 20mm, respectively, from concept to production, but its height has increased by 20mm to 1,640mm. At 2,700mm, the wheelbase is the same. It’s interesting to note that the Urban Cruiser EV is slightly bigger than the Suzuki e Vitara due to these measurements.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Battery and Motors

Lithium-iron phosphate cells in the Urban Cruiser EV have capacities of 49 and 61 kWh. Urban cruisers with a larger battery will have a 174hp, 189Nm front motor, while those with a smaller battery will have a 144hp, 189Nm motor installed on the front axle.

AWD versions, which are powered by a 61kWh battery and include an additional 65hp rear axle-mounted motor, will also be available, similar to the e Vitara. The AWD version of the Urban Cruiser produces 184 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. Additionally, these models will have a “Trail Mode” that helps with rough-roading and hill-descent management.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV interior and Features

From the two-spoke steering wheel and dashboard design to the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, the interior of the Urban Cruiser EV is almost exactly the same as that of the e Vitara. The pictures that Toyota made public feature a single-zone auto climate control system, a wireless phone charger, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, drive modes, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. Additional confirmed features include a sunroof, a JBL audio system, and motorised driver’s seat adjustment, at least on range-topping versions. The Japanese manufacturer has also announced that the EV’s rear seats will have a 40:20:40 split-folding feature in addition to sliding and reclining capabilities.

A 360-degree camera and an ADAS suite that includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, lane-keep assist, and a pre-collision system will be part of the Urban Cruiser EV’s safety package.
