Details about 600 DC Fast-Charging Stations to be setup by Hyundai India till 2032

Hyundai India has unveiled its ambitious plan to enhance electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure by installing approximately 600 fast-charging DC stations across the country by 2032. This initiative will be rolled out in phases over the next seven years, targeting major highways and urban centers to support public EV usage. As part of this effort, Hyundai aims to have 50 DC fast chargers operational by the end of this year, strategically positioned along highways, in key cities, and at dealerships. Additionally, the automaker has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to establish 100 EV charging stations across the state within the next two years.

Function Head-Corporate Planning at Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), Mr. Jae Wan Ryu, stated that “the EV market is expected to grow robustly by 2030,” highlighting the importance of this initiative. However, our studies indicate that many customers remain hesitant about long-distance travel in EVs due to inadequate charging infrastructure. To address this concern, HMIL is prioritizing the installation of fast chargers on key highways alongside major urban areas.”

Hyundai’s existing DC charging network has aalready supported nearly 50,000 sessions, serving over 10,000 EV customers across various brands, and has dispensed over 7.30 lakh units of energy to date. Having entered the Indian EV market in 2019 with the Kona EV, Hyundai now offers the Ioniq 5, reflecting its growing commitment to sustainable mobility.

The company’s investment in EV infrastructure also includes setting up 10 fast-charging stations in Tamil Nadu by the end of 2024, accessible 24/7 via the myHyundai app for all EV owners, regardless of brand. Three stations are already operational in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai, with the remainder set to go live shortly.

In addition to its infrastructure expansion, Hyundai is gearing up for significant product launches. The much-anticipated Creta EV, set for a January 2025 debut, is expected to offer a range exceeding 500 kilometers on a single charge. This electric SUV will compete with rivals like the Tata Curvv, MG ZS EV, and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, underscoring Hyundai’s commitment to driving the adoption of electric mobility in India.
