WhatsApp, a well-known messaging program, has explained that it would stop supporting some older iPhone models and iOS versions.
Users of iPhone devices such as the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus will be impacted by the change, which will take effect on May 5, 2025.
As long as they have upgraded their iPhones to the most recent version of iOS, users of more recent models can still use the app.
WhatsApp’s Notification to users on older iOS versions
Users of earlier iOS versions have received a reminder from WhatsApp alerting them to the fact that their devices would no longer be supported after the year.
The update explicitly states that even if users try to access the app using an outdated beta version on TestFlight, they will not be allowed to use it in the future if they are running iOS versions older than 15.1.
Commitment to broad compatibility
Keeping a variety of iOS versions compatible has always been a priority for WhatsApp. The strategy has made it possible for the app to support a wide range of iPhone models and operating systems.
As part of its ongoing attempts to stay current and offer improved services, WhatsApp has decided to stop supporting older versions of iOS.
Transition to newer iOS versions
The reason for the switch to more recent iOS versions is that they have the updated APIs and cutting-edge technologies that WhatsApp needs in order to add new features.
The application can improve performance and add features that aren’t achievable with out-of-date operating systems by discontinuing support for older versions.
Users of the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 12.5.7, the most recent version, will be primarily affected.
