At the Corporation Stadium on Friday, Railways easily defeated Pondicherry 10-1 in Group H matches of the Santosh Trophy qualification event, while host Kerala thrashed Lakshadweep 10-1.
In the sixth minute, Kerala took the lead thanks to a deflection from the Lakshadweep goalie, whose mistake was exacerbated by the defenders. All of that made it possible for S. Muhammad Ashiq to produce an incredible close-range volley.
Muhammad Ajsal entered the area from the right side three minutes later, outran the Pondicherry defence, and skilfully returned the ball to Naseeb Rahman, who added the final touch. The floodgates opened after the host took a 2-0 lead.
The 20th minute saw another goal from Ajsal. Then, in the 37th minute, E. Sajeesh made it 4-0, and he would score again in the 78th and 89th minutes. Mohammed Rishad and Muhammad Musharaf were the other goal scorers, with Gani Nigam scoring two goals.
