Jake Neighbours’ Shootout Goal Earns the Blues a 3-2 Victory Over the Sharks

The St. Louis Blues ended a four-game home losing streak Thursday night with a 3-2 victory, Jordan Binnington stopped all three San Jose Sharks, and Jake Neighbours scored the only goal in the shootout.

After giving up Alexander Wennberg’s game-winning goal with 8.8 seconds remaining, Binnington recovered to record his 151st career win and tie Mike Liut’s franchise record.

Wennberg scored both of the Sharks’ goals. Both goals were assisted by Macklin Celebrini, the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft, and Mikael Granlund.

The Blues triumphed for the second time in their previous nine games thanks to goals from Jordan Kyrou and Nathan Walker in regulation. After Radek Faksa stopped Sharks goalie Yaroslav Askarov’s pass 11 seconds into the game, Walker scored.

With 8:13 remaining in the second half, Kyrou, positioned at the top of the crease between Granlund and Timothy Liljegren, scored his sixth goal of the season by jamming home a ball from Pierre-Olivier Joseph.

Askarov made 29 saves in the victory, while Binnington made 22.

Sharks: Despite scoring a goal in the first period for the third consecutive game, San Jose, which has been outscored 28-10 in the opening period this season, had another rough start.

Blues: With 295 games played, Binnington is the second-most experienced goalie in the team’s history. Compared to Liut, who finished 151-133 with 52 ties from 1979 to 1985, he achieved the 151-win milestone in 56 fewer games.
