There are now additional features available for status updates on WhatsApp. New status likes and private mentions features are being rolled out for Android and iOS users on the instant messaging platform owned by Meta. Tapping the heart emoji to accept a contact’s status update is a new feature called Likes on Status.

WhatsApp Introduces Ability to Like Statuses, Mention Contacts

WhatsApp published a blog entry on Thursday announcing significant changes to its Status feature. All users of the chat app can now access new features including private mentions and status likes. Users may simply press the heart emoji to show support for a contact’s status update when they use the “like” feature. It functions in a manner akin to enjoying Instagram stories.

Users may now tag and discreetly mention contacts in their status updates on WhatsApp thanks to the new Private Mentions feature. It is very simple for the tagged contacts to reshare it with their audience. Similar to tagging friends on Facebook and Instagram stories, this feature operates similarly. WhatsApp private mentions are concealed and do not appear in the status.

Users worldwide will soon be able to access the newly launched WhatsApp status features as they begin to roll out.
