Zomato’s co-founder and Chief People Officer, Akriti Chopra, has officially resigned, ending her 13-year tenure at the 16-year-old food delivery giant. The company made this announcement on September 27 through a formal notification to the stock exchange, with her resignation taking immediate effect.
Reflecting on her departure, an excerpt from her farewell email stated, “It’s been an incredibly enriching journey over the past 13 years. Thank you for everything. I’m always a call away. Wishing you and Eternal, the very best.”
Akriti Chopra first joined Zomato back in 2011 as a Senior Manager of Finance and Operations, and over the years, she took on significant leadership positions such as Chief Financial Officer and Head of People Development. In 2021, she was elevated to the role of co-founder, becoming one of the six individuals who have been honored with this title at Zomato, five of whom were promoted to the position.
Her departure adds to the list of Zomato co-founders who have exited in recent years, including Pankaj Chaddah in 2018, Gaurav Gupta in 2021, Mohit Gupta in 2022, and Gunjan Patidar in 2023. Each of these key figures moved on from the Info Edge-backed company over the past six years.
After leaving Zomato in 2019, Pankaj Chaddah ventured into the mental wellness industry by founding his startup, Mindhouse. Gunjan Patidar, after stepping down, took up an advisory role at PubLive in June 2022. Gaurav Gupta launched his health-tech startup, Gabit, earlier this year, while Mohit Gupta co-founded Lyskraft alongside Mukesh Bansal, marking another significant career move.
An interesting development this year saw Rahul Ganjoo, who had left Zomato in January 2023, returning to the Gurugram-based company in July.
This news coincides with Zomato’s main competitor, Swiggy, gearing up for its initial public offering (IPO). The Bengaluru-based food delivery company filed its draft IPO papers on Thursday, with plans to raise $450 million through a fresh issue.
