Yash Chopra’s iconic 2004 romantic drama, “Veer-Zaara,” featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Rani Mukerji, has made its way back to theaters. This film, a testament to the late Yash Chopra’s legendary cinematic legacy, continues to shine, nearly 20 years since its original release. Since its recent re-release, “Veer-Zaara” has managed to surpass the ₹100 crore mark at the global box office, further solidifying its status as a timeless classic.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, “Veer-Zaara” garnered ₹20 lakh on Friday (September 13), ₹32 lakh on Saturday, ₹38 lakh on Sunday, ₹20 lakh on Monday, ₹18 lakh on Tuesday, ₹15 lakh on Wednesday, and ₹14 lakh on Thursday, reaching a total of ₹1.57 crore at the domestic box office after its re-release. When adding the ₹0.23 crore collected from overseas, the September re-release total stands at ₹1.80 crore. Earlier this year, the film also earned ₹0.30 crore during its February re-release.

During its original 2004 run, “Veer-Zaara” had accumulated ₹61 crore domestically and ₹37 crore internationally, totaling ₹98 crore. Over the years, from 2005 to 2023, it added another ₹2.50 crore. With the latest re-release earnings factored in, the movie’s worldwide collection has now reached ₹102.60 crore, crossing the significant ₹100 crore milestone. The timing of its re-release coincides with National Cinema Day, with tickets priced at ₹99, suggesting a potential increase in viewership today, September 20.

“Veer-Zaara,” produced under Yash Raj Films, marked Yash Chopra’s third collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, following “Darr” (1991) and “Dil To Pagal Hai” (1997). The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani, Kirron Kher, Anupam Kher, and Divya Dutta.

The narrative of “Veer-Zaara” is a cross-border love story centered on an Indian Air Force officer and a Pakistani woman who travels to India to fulfill her late grandmother’s last wish. Their love faces severe trials as Shah Rukh’s character is falsely implicated in an espionage case, resulting in their separation. Years later, Rani Mukerji’s character takes up his case to secure his release from prison, aiming to reunite him with Preity’s character.
