Microsoft has released a Windows app for web browsers, Android devices, Windows PCs, macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. The application functions as a central location for Windows streaming from a variety of platforms, such as Remote Desktop, Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, and more.

“With Windows App, you can enjoy a unified experience that makes it simple for people to connect to the Windows experience they know and love from any device. Enhance productivity with features such as customisable home screens, multi-monitor support, and USB redirection. The Windows App also offers advanced security features, including multifactor authentication, to ensure a seamless and robust connection, enabling efficient work from any location at any time,” explained Microsoft.

With its configurable home screen, support for multiple monitors, and USB redirection, the new integrated app—which has been in beta for about a year—allows users to use local peripherals like printers, webcams, and storage devices as though they were directly linked to a cloud PC.

Since the program is primarily meant for current users of Remote Desktop clients for Windows and other operating systems to switch to, it is restricted to Microsoft work and school accounts. For years, Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Connection application fulfilled a comparable function, and it is still bundled with Windows 11. Users can access work PCs from a home laptop or desktop by using these apps.

It seems that the new Windows app will not support customer accounts from Microsoft. But according to The Verge last year, Microsoft intends to eventually move Windows entirely to the cloud in order to “enable improved AI-powered services and full roaming of people’s digital experience,”

The new Windows software is available for download from the Microsoft Store and is also available for macOS, iOS, and iPadOS users on the Apple software Store. There’s also an Android version accessible in public preview mode.
