Mickey Mouse fear A UK release date has finally been set for The Mouse Trap.

The cherished Disney rodent mouse, which came after AA Milne’s bear in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, is the most recent childhood symbol to be turned into a horror film. September 30 is when The Mouse Trap will be available digitally and on DVD on our side of the Atlantic, around two months after it was released on VOD in the US on August 6.

The film, which was created and directed by Jamie Bailey and Simon Phillips, has nothing to do with Disney, but it will undoubtedly change the way you perceive the silent mouse.

In this classic slasher, 21-year-old Alex, an employee of an arcade, works a late shift. A masked assassin dressed as Mickey Mouse has a different kind of birthday treat in mind for the group when her buddies decide to surprise her.

The movie makes use of the vintage Mickey Mouse from the 1928 sound-synchronized picture Steamboat Willie, which become public on January 1st of this year. Disney has made it clear that this does not apply to more contemporary renderings of Mickey Mouse, but it does mean that some versions of the character can now be utilised in other media without running the danger of copyright infringement.

“More modern versions of Mickey will remain unaffected by the expiration of the Steamboat Willie copyright, and Mickey will continue to play a leading role as a global ambassador for the Walt Disney Company in our storytelling, theme park attractions, and merchandise,” a spokesperson for Disney told Deadline in January.

“We will, of course, continue to protect our rights in the more modern versions of Mickey Mouse and other works that remain subject to copyright” explained the company.
