The most recent installment in the Despicable Me series is breaking records at the box office. The animated film keeps going above and beyond expectations, even though its popularity could have been expected. Despicable Me 4 is considered a “sleeper hit” by Collider because there are so many popular films this summer. Despicable Me 4 brought in $330 million domestically and $477 million worldwide, for an astounding $807 million in total revenue, according to Collider. Despicable Me 4 is still performing strong and is about to surpass Minions: The Rise of Gru in earnings despite its digital release.
The animated series Despicable Me has shown itself to be a formidable one. Over $5 billion has been made by the four major films and their two spinoffs combined. Just the first two films in the series brought in over $1 billion. Despicable Me 4’s success has led to an average gross earning for the franchise of approximately $909 million.
More Despicable Me In The Works
Considering the franchise’s enormous success to far, it is also rumoured that Universal is developing additional material. Despicable Me 5 and a third Minions movie are in development. Pierre Coffin will helm Minions 3, which will make its premiere on June 30, 2027. Director Chris Renaud has hinted at a time jump for the series, even though Despicable Me 5 does not currently have a release date.
The experiences of Gru, an unexpected father and erstwhile supervillain, are chronicled in the Despicable Me franchise. Along with Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, and Joey King, Steve Carell plays Gru in the series.
