Early 2025 is when the much anticipated Rose of Versailles anime film is expected to debut, almost 45 years after the transmission of the anime version of Riyoko Ikeda’s manga.
Studio MAPPA is animating the Rose of Versailles production, which was first announced in September 2022. A cast change was anticipated because the first anime aired more than 40 years ago.
Oscar, the lead role, will be portrayed by Miyuki Sawashiro. Toshiyuki Toyonaga will portray Andre, Kazuki Kato will provide the voice of Hans Axel von Fersen, and Aya Hirano will portray Marie Antoinette.
Tomoko Komparu is the principal screenwriter, and Ai Yoshimura has been announced as the director. Along with Kohta Yamamoto, seasoned and well-known music producer Hiroyuki Sawano will oversee the score. The designer of the characters is Mariko Ota.
The trailer for the new film is also revealed:
Rose of Versailles is set in the era of the French Revolution and chronicles the struggles of two characters: Marie Antoinette, a young queen who immigrated to France from Austria, and Oscar François de Jarjayes, a stunning woman who was trained as a soldier.
The series was serialised in Weekly Margaret of Shueisha from 1972 to 1973. The Takarazuka Revue stage play, a TV animation in 1979, and a movie were all developed from the series.
