Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment are bringing the popular anime series Demon Slayer to a fittingly opulent conclusion. The partners announced on Sunday that they would be releasing the final installments of the popular anime series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, as three separate theatrical releases in theatres across the globe. The immensely popular, multiple-award-winning anime shonen series reaches its climax with this three-part installment, marking the series’ final arc.
With nearly $500 million in total ticket sales, Mugen Train, an earlier film entry in the expansive Demon Slayer epic, presently holds the record as the highest-grossing anime movie of all time and the highest-grossing Japanese film at the global box office.
Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll, explained, “Crunchyroll is thrilled to be able to bring this trilogy of films to fans, on the big screen, and it promises to be one of the truly epic and consequential pop-cultural events of our time when it hits theaters,”
The manga series by artist Koyoharu Gotoge, which was published by Shueisha’s Jump Comics and has 23 volumes and more than 150 million copies in circulation, is the basis for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Since its release in 2018, the action fantasy anime series has grown to become a worldwide cultural phenomenon. The narrative starts with Tanjiro Kamado, a young man whose family is wiped out by a demon, joining the Demon Slayer Corps in order to help his younger sister Nezuko, who has been changed into a demon, return to human form.
Tokyo-based production firm Ufotable is responsible for producing the many anime TV and cinema adaptations of Demon Slayer. The property has played a significant role in the continuous global upsurge in interest in Japanese animation.
