Back in 2019, the Amaze received a 4-star adult and 1-star child occupant protection rating. However, this was the model that was marketed in South Africa as being built in India.
In the frontal impact test, both children’s dummies displayed head contact, according to the Global NCAP study. The 3-year-old dummy was in risk of being ejected, and the three-year-old dummy had significant loadings in its neck and chest. A 0-star rating for child occupant protection was also attained due to the absence of three-point seat belts in all seating positions, a passenger airbag disconnection switch, and only one provision for CRS installation.
Head protection, ESC not being included as standard, and a driver-only seat belt reminder.
It’s interesting to note that Honda recently added new safety features to every model in its lineup in India, including seatbelt reminders for all five seats in the Avengers. If testing had been done on the more recent model, the safety rating might have been a little different.
The reaction of Honda to the crash test:
According to the test results under the revised standards, Honda Cars India declared in an official statement that the automobile is “of a 5-star level” and that the lower rating is “mainly due to the requirement of certain equipment like Electronic Stability Control and Side Curtain Airbags.” “We are committed to consistently working to enhance our vehicles on all safety parameters and further improve them at model change timing,” the statement said.
The fact that the current generation model was unveiled in 2018 and will be replaced by a brand-new model later this year makes the last line more significant. This makes it an odd pick for a crash test, yet something similar happened when the Gen 4 Honda City and Honda Jazz were tested in 2022, right before they were scheduled for discontinuation. We believe that the Elevate SUV, which will be released in 2023, would have made a better choice for Global NCAP in terms of consumer guidance.
ABS with EBD, two frontal airbags, rear parking sensors, a rear multi-view camera, a high-speed alert, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages are among the safety features available on the Amaze. The sedan is positioned against the Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor and is currently priced between Rs 7.93 lakh and Rs 9.86 lakh (ex-showroom).
