The next big thing from OnePlus, which was officially introduced in China at the beginning of December of last year, is finally prepared to take the world by storm. This certainly includes the United States, where the cutting-edge OnePlus 12 is currently available for pre-order at a suggested price of $799.99 in advance of a February 6 countrywide shipment start date.
These are essentially the only regional queries that were unaddressed before today’s massive worldwide launch event, but let us quickly recap what this bad boy is all about in case you somehow missed both last month’s announcement and the subsequent buzz-building campaign that OnePlus itself focused on the US, Europe, and India.
A wall-to-wall Android super-flagship available at a fraction of the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s price
Is the OnePlus 12 a fair comparison to what may be the best Android phone available for purchase in (early) 2024? Why not, then? Granted, this “new” competitor lacks a built-in stylus, whereas the Galaxy S24 Ultra has.
Apart from that, though, it’s clear that OnePlus wants its most advanced ultra-high-end phone to be on par with the best phones available on the market in almost every way.
The OnePlus 12 lacks a 200-megapixel super-sensor in terms of camera capabilities, but it more than makes up for that “flaw” with a 48MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 64MP periscope telephoto lens to support a primary 50MP camera that is clearly impressive in and of itself despite having a significant apparent disadvantage in comparison to the competition.
The official OnePlus website features a smart and humorous little graphic that compares the company’s newest flagship to a “competitor’s S24 Ultra”, a “competitor’s S24 Plus”, and a “competitor’s 8 Pro” in a few important sectors. It’s interesting to note that this 4th generation Hasselblad camera system is not included in the chart.
As mentioned there (and before in our own comprehensive side-by-side comparisons), the OnePlus 12 has a remarkable 5,400mAh battery that supports both 50W and 80W wireless charging and is equipped with a state-of-the-art Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
In addition to being larger than competitors, the 6.82-inch OnePlus 12 has a brightness of up to 4500 nits and supports the same 120Hz refresh rate technology as nearly all other devices in or near its price range.
So should you pre-order the OnePlus 12?
It really depends on your own preferences and brand allegiance, so we obviously can’t answer that for you. However, you are strongly encouraged to at least take a look at the $799.99 buying option at this time.
For a limited time, you may get an entry-level configuration with 256GB of internal storage and 12GB of RAM, or you can get an additional 4 gigabytes of memory and twice as much local digital storage space. That’s correct, OnePlus is adopting a strategy from Samsung for its eagerly awaited (and long overdue) launch, providing a free memory upgrade right away with no conditions and no requirements to meet.
Better more, you can receive an additional $100 off with “any” device in “any condition” as guaranteed quick trade-in credit. This implies that, for example, you may get rid of your outdated and damaged flip phone and spend just $699.99 on the flagship OnePlus 12 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage—quite an incredible launch offer.
Of course, you can save up to $700 and pay just $99.99 for this amazing Galaxy S24 Ultra substitute if you have something better, newer, and… functioning to trade in. Not only that, but OnePlus 12 pre-orders also get a $30 voucher off of their purchase of OnePlus Buds 3, which is almost the icing on the cake for one of the best value Android products available right now. How on earth could you turn down all this ultra-premium goodness?
