In order to strengthen an extra degree of security, Meta’s WhatsApp on Thursday unveiled a new feature called “secret code,” which allows users to create a “unique password” for opening their closed messages. The “chat lock” option was first made available on the instant messaging platform in May of this year.
“Rolling out secret code to Chat Lock on WhatsApp so you can protect your chats with a unique password,” stated Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a blog post. In order to prevent someone from accidentally finding out about your most private chats, you can now configure your locked chats to only show up when you enter the secret code in the search field.
What locked chats? asked the official WhatsApp X account, which was originally Twitter. Here’s nothing to see. Your restricted chats folder will shortly be hidden. Then enter your secret code into the search bar to make it visible.
“We’re so happy our community has been loving Chat Lock, and hope that secret code makes it even more useful to them,” the messaging platform stated in a blog post.
With this latest upgrade, WhatsApp has added a new secret code function that is available to all users, significantly improving security. With the use of this feature, users can create a custom password for their chats that is only available to them by combining phrases or emojis.
This function was started rolling out by WhatsApp on Thursday, but it will eventually be available to all users worldwide.
How will this operate?
WhatsApp users may now create a unique password for their locked chats that is different from their phone unlock code thanks to the addition of a secret code, providing an additional layer of security. Users can now choose to hide the locked conversations folder from their chat list so that users can only access it by typing in the secret code in the search field.
Users also have the option to leave these closed chats open in their chatlist. A single long press can lock a new chat, saving you the trouble of going to the chat settings.
By turning on the hidden chats folder option, you can make sure that these private talks disappear from the main chat window. Compared to the existing WhatsApp design, which displays a locked chat shortcut when scrolling down on the chat screen, this functionality offers users increased privacy.
