The two-time World Cup champion argued that considering their status as a role model for millions of young people, money cannot be that crucial for someone to begin supporting such items. He went on to further illustrate his argument by mentioning Sachin Tendulkar and disclosing that the great batter had rejected a 20 crore rupee offer for a “Pan Masala” advertisement.
Earlier in the month, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir got into a memorable IPL brawl at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Sehwag and Gavaskar were both criticised for it on Twitter. According to Sehwag, the two “icons” shouldn’t provide a poor example for children who exhibit this behaviour. Gavaskar and Sehwag, however, received criticism for their hypocrisy in light of his involvement in an advertisement for an Indian tobacco company.
