2025 could be the year Samsung unveils its triple-fold phone

Samsung has been working on its innovative triple-fold smartphone concept for a while, and it seems 2025 might finally be the year this groundbreaking device becomes a reality. Despite challenges like high costs and limited production capabilities, Samsung’s tri-fold phone is inching closer to market release.

Rumors about Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone have been circulating since early 2023. Back then, speculation suggested that the company postponed the Galaxy S23 FE’s launch—eventually rolled out in October 2023—to prioritize developing this revolutionary device. Samsung even showcased the tri-fold concept during the Samsung Developer Conference in October 2023, but the actual product didn’t emerge. Now, it appears Samsung is ready to bring this innovation to consumers, with a potential release slated for 2025.

The excitement around Samsung’s tri-foldable device follows Huawei’s launch of the world’s first triple-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT, in September 2024. Priced at 20,000 Yuan (approximately ₹2,31,800), Huawei’s device set a high benchmark. However, industry sources suggest Samsung’s tri-fold could come with an even heftier price tag, thanks to its advanced hardware and display technologies. Reports indicate the phone will feature three display panels, two internal and two external hinges, and a unique G-shaped folding design. Unlike Huawei’s S- or Z-shaped fold mechanism, Samsung’s approach folds the screens inward, offering better durability and addressing some challenges seen with the Mate XT.

Samsung plans to tread cautiously with its new device, reportedly limiting production to fewer than 3,00,000 units initially. Launch plans for the G-type tri-fold phone suggest a debut in the latter half of 2025, starting with South Korea and select Asian markets. A global rollout will likely depend on consumer response in these regions.

The tri-fold device is expected to feature a massive 12.4-inch display when fully unfolded, making it a potential smartphone-tablet hybrid, surpassing Huawei’s Mate XT in screen size. It may also support a partially unfolded mode with a 10.5-inch screen. Rumors suggest Samsung might skip under-display camera technology in favor of a hole-punch cutout, prioritizing improved camera performance over seamless aesthetics.

Samsung’s foldable lineup for 2025 includes other exciting releases like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, alongside this anticipated triple-fold marvel. While production remains limited, the variety signals Samsung’s continued leadership in the foldable market.
